Class Descriptions
Mathematics
Intro to MATHCOUNTS A
For students who have a basic knowledge of early geometry, integer properties, and simple probability, this class is open to middle school students with little to no experience in MATHCOUNTS. The course will cover counting strategies, number theory, probability and introductory combinatorics, and elementary geometry on and off the Cartesian plane.

Intermediate MATHCOUNTS B
Geared towards the student already familiar with topics covered in the Introductory Class as well as with fundamental algebra, this course goes at a faster pace than the Introductory Class and covers materials at a State MATHCOUNTS level. Topics will include modular arithmetic, creative geometry, algebraic techniques, and combinatorial modeling. The Session Two version of MATHCOUNTS B is identical in curriculum.

Advanced MATHCOUNTS C
For the student who has already developed an understanding of geometry, number theory, and combinatorics, Advanced MATHCOUNTS C is the fastest-paced course of the MATHCOUNTS progression. This class will cover materials at a State to National MATHCOUNTS level, and is open to students who have completed MATHCOUNTS B or demonstrate considerable expertise in problem-solving techniques. Topics will include advanced modular arithmetic, sequences and series, high-level geometry and applications, and advanced combinatorics.

Advanced MATHCOUNTS C PRIME
For students who have already achieved proficiency in the fundamentals of problem-solving, geometry, and combinatorics, MATHCOUNTS C Prime is a class of comparable difficulty level to MATHCOUNTS C that covers a different range of topics and strategies. It is especially recommended for students preparing for MATHCOUNTS competitions who have already taken the Advanced MATHCOUNTS C class, but it is accessible to all who have completed Intermediate MATHCOUNTS B or achieved a similar level of experience in mathematics.

Advanced AMC Forum - not offered 2017
This one-week workshop is for the not-quite Grand Master Yodas, but for the Yodas who are a few hundred years younger and are now stepping their feet into training. Primarily problem-based, this workshop is the continuation of the MATHCOUNTS progression with a set of more advanced topics targeted at the AMC's. Students will study rigorous topics in discrete mathematics including combinatorics, applied number theory, and geometry.
Advanced AMC / AIME Workshop - not offered 2017
This one-week intensive workshop is for the Grand Master Yodas of mathematical appreciation. Styled after a proof-and-problem-based seminar, the course will prepare dedicated students for the later problems of the AMC 10 to the AIME Examination. Students will be introduced to mathematical proofs beyond those of a high school geometry course and will establish principles in discrete mathematics, as well as in one special topic of the instructor's choice.
Advanced Combinatorics (Coming in 2018)

Class placement will be determined by placement tests sent out in mid-March.
Maximum enrollment for all mathematics classes is 10 students.
Humanities
Advanced Debate: Public Forum - not offered in 2017
For high school debaters seeking to accelerate their skills, this is a one-week intensive workshop in Public Forum debate. In a competition setting, students will prepare selected cases and refine their research, flowing, speaking, and frameworks. With frequent mock debates, students will explore logical fallacies and receive individual coaching in rhetoric. Once accepted, students will vote on the summer's topic, revealed in May.

Theory of Everything - not offered in 2017
Have you ever wanted to study everything? Not just one subject, or several school topics surface-deep, but utterly everything? Covering the sciences and humanities from an early undergraduate level, this course is a one-week immersion in "what you're not taught in high school." With an introduction to philosophy, linguistics, poetry, theoretical physics, game theory, and the concept of being, this class is for the intellectual enthusiasts who want more than that one, stimulating conversation from January 23rd. Meet fellow writers, philosophers, and thinkers: and best of all, they will be students like you.

Applicants: Rising 9th Grade - College Freshmen
The maximum enrollment for each humanities class is 12 students.
